Our 3-phase power factor data loggers record both energy (kWh) and power (kW) usage, checking voltage and current variations to diagnose any related issues or to gather data, for example to make representations to power suppliers. Since the datalogger records both voltage and current, users can determine if low voltage is related to high current demands onsite or if the low voltage is being supplied to the site. For protection from dust and splashes, this durable logger is rated at IP43 and is available in even sturdier IP65 and NEMA 12/4 versions.

The data logger utilizes 3 voltage channels measuring from 30V-500Vac and 3 current channels measuring up to 400A, 1kA, 2kA or 3kAac. At single phase, the logger records at a range of 30V-300V. The included Rogowski coils fit around 140mm diameter cables and break open at their black joints so users can put them around the cables without needing to break the main circuit. When only a single phase voltage supply is available, users can set the EC-7VAR to monitor and record 3-phase energy using its 3 current inputs and a single phase voltage input instead of the normal 3 voltage inputs.

The Accsense Advantage:

Accsense Electrocorder products use a constant sampling technique, unlike the single ‘snapshot’ reading of competing devices. When these loggers start to record, they sample every channel 16 times per cycle (a cycle being 16ms at 60Hz and 20ms at 50Hz). At the end of each averaging period, 3 quantities are saved for each channel, the True RMS average, the Max, which is the highest cycle value during the period and the Min, the lowest cycle value. This means that our dataloggers will record all the peaks and valleys which are one cycle or longer.

FREE Electrosoft software is also provided in the kit, allowing users to define the voltage so they can plot power and energy, then simply upload recorded data via USB to a PC for analysis. Measuring Temperature and Humidity with a Wireless System

Many of our callers need to monitor temperature and humidity using an Accsense A1-10 Wireless Current data logger. These products are popular for their ease of installation and use. In our latest Technical Article, we outline how to connect an Omega temperature and humidity sensor to an Accsense A1-10 pod. After connection is completed, any user who has an Accsense administrator login can use their online Accsense Account to view the data in real time.

Data Logger/Sensor Connection:

The Accsense A1-10 Wireless Current data logger has six (6) 4-20mA inputs for connection to a wide variety of sensors. In this example we’re using the Omega HX94c Relative Humidity Temperature Transmitter. Reliable and relatively inexpensive, these general-purpose sensors are popular for use in measuring temperature and relative humidity in various applications, especially HVAC monitoring for placement in air-conditioning ducts. They offer quick connection with a linearized output for interface with most display and control devices.

In our example our customer used three (3) of these probes. Each probe provides two (2) 4-20mA signals:

  • One is for temperature from 0-100°C
  • The other is for 0-100% RH

Here we’re using an external 24V power supply to power both of the current loops. We use two channels on the A1-10 data logger for each sensor—one for temperature, one for humidity. Diagram 1 below shows the wiring of the three Omega sensors with a single Accsense A1-10 data logger.

Calibration Coefficients:

In the Accsense software, users can view the calibration coefficients of each connected sensor. Example calibration factors are listed at the bottom of Diagram 1 above. The calibration coefficients scale the current data into the chosen value, in this case converting the 4-20mA signal to Celcius temperature and 0-100% RH.

Click the ‘Preferences’ icon in the Accsense software. This icon is represented by a checklist icon with two red checks on it.

The ‘General’ tab allows you to name the sensor and provide your desired units.

  • The VersaLog TC is an 8-channel thermocouple data logger. It records the ambient temperature and up to 7 external thermocouple probes. The VersaLog TC can also be used as a small voltage data logger with the input voltage range as small as -2 mV to +18 mV.
  • The VersaLog TH is an 8-channel thermistor data logger. It accepts nearly any kind of thermistors that have a resistance value above 10K at 25°C.

Current/Voltage/Combination:

  • The VersaLog DCV-2 is an 8-channel stand alone voltage data logger. Input voltage signals can be from sensors, transducers, transmitters or any other common voltage source.
  • The VersaLog DCC-HR is an 8-channel current DC data logger. Input current signals can be from sensors, transducers, transmitters or any other common current source.
  • The VersaLog DCVC-HR is an 8-channel voltage/current DC data logger. As with the above models, input voltage/current signals can be from sensors, transducers, transmitters or any other common voltage/current source.

Pulse/Strain Gauge Bridge:

  • VersaLog VL-P Pulse Data LoggerThe VersaLog P is a 7-channel pulse/state/event data logger. The logger detects electronic or mechanical pulse counts, state changes, or events in any of the seven channels. It works with gas/water/power meters, rain gauges, flow rate meters, and any other digital signal/switch closure output devices. Powered by configurable channel, internal pullup and triggering edge selections, the Versalog P combines the functionality of three types of loggers into one compact unit!
  • The VersaLog BR is a single-channel strain gauge bridge data logger. It supports 4/6 wheatstone bridges by providing voltage excitation, excitation voltage compensation and low level signal amplification. The VersaLog BR features a measurement input voltage range of -8 mV to +8 mV to accommodate most common bridges with a sensitivity of up to 3 mV/V.

Free Configuration & Graphing Software:

All VersaLog products include SiteView software to configure the data loggers, retrieve stored data, graph the measurements and save/export the data. SiteView is compatible with Windows XP, Vista or Windows 7, 8. Users can view real-time data from any connected logger. SiteView also has a calibration tool to convert the raw sensor output to physical parameters using either a simple linear fit or a more complex equation. Additionally, an alarm management tool enables local or email notification of alarm conditions so users stay on top of developing conditions.

The Accsense A1-01a Wireless Environmental Datalogger is designed for general environmental measurements. We offer our Accsense VersaLog TC Temperature Data Logger for connection with all thermocouple types. Ideal for monitoring and alarming temperature in labs, medical storage units, incubators, and more, the TC is a versatile low-cost solution. Featuring 8 channels recording at high resolution, a large 4MB memory, and using Windows configuration and analysis/plotting software, Accsense VersaLog is an affordable alternative to expensive data acquisition devices and paper chart recorders. These products also feature USB, Serial port and Ethernet connections for easy local and remote access.

Thermocouple Data Loggers:

Designed for unattended data recording and storage applications, the VersaLog TC logger is compact and lightweight for flexible deployment. The logger’s 7 external input channels accommodate all types of external thermocouple probes, and the TC can also record ambient temperature. Additionally the unit can also be used as a small voltage data logger with the input voltage range as small as -8 mV to +8 mV.

All Accsense VersaLog data loggers are designed with a rugged, splash-resistant aluminum enclosure, and their internal electronics are protected against moisture by a PCB conformal coating. For standalone operation, an internal battery is standard with the logger with a life of about 10 years.

The TC’s 16-bit analog-to-digital (ADC) converter meets most high-resolution requirements for applications where accurate measurements are critical, whether monitoring temperature in medical refrigerators, freezers and incubators, or for use in the lab monitoring processes and liquids.

TC VersaLog thermocouple data loggers support a wide sampling interval range from every 20 milliseconds to every 12 hours. These data loggers record information and save measurements onto their non-volatile 4MB flash memory for quick retrieval. This amounts to up to 2 million measurements for extended logging periods with the choice to stop or overwrite logging when the memory is full.

Flexible Communications:

All VersaLog data loggers have a built-in USB port for configuration and downloading data via PC connection. These temperature recorders offer users their choice of connection options, supporting modem or Ethernet connections with an auto baud rate of up to 115 kbps.

An optional USB device server allows users to connect multiple VersaLog loggers to a single Ethernet port for remote network access. This allows users to mix and match models to monitor multiple values with a large number of channels.

Alarm Capability:

The TC’s two programmable alarm control outputs can be configured with low or high limits to activate a relay, switch on a light, trigger an audible alarm, or signal a PLC or other device. Users can program the dataloggers ahead of time to start logging whenever needed. Two configurable alarm thresholds are available per channel, and the ALARM1 & A2/EXT terminal strips can be configured as alarm outputs so users can stay on top of sudden changes in their data. The onboard LED lights in red when in alarm condition, and with purchase of the inexpensive software, the VersaLog also reports its alarm status to a host PC via USB, modem or Ethernet device server.

Suiting both novice and advanced users, the powerful Versalog SiteView software is available for configuration, setup, downloading, plotting, data analysis and alarm reporting. SiteView is a Windows-based application with an intuitive graphic interface and supports USB, serial port and Ethernet connections.
